In isthmic spondylolisthesis Vertebrae gets affected with some kind of unwanted force that suddenly flicks your vertebrae forward. It is a condition that can be related to vertebrae brinkmanship. It is a condition where your vertebrae slips forward over the vertebrae below. This is a kind of condition that usually affects those who are at the age of 4 to 7 years. Pars interarticularis, a small piece of your bone gets affected with fracture that causes isthmic spondylolisthesis. It is called spinal instability and often affects lower part of your spine or we can say that it generally affects base of your spine. We can say that isthmic spondylolisthesis is a rare medical condition and around 4-5 % of the world population has been affected by it.
Fourth and fifth lumbar (4L – 5L) vertebrae and sacral vertebra (S1) are usually get affected by isthmic spondylolisthesis. Spondylolisthesis conditions has been divided into four major grade that is Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 and this gradation is based on how far the vertebrae has slipped from its actual position. Grade 1 indicates that 1 to 24 % slippage has occurred of your vertebrae; Grade 2 shows that 25 to 49 per cent slippage has Occurred; Grade 3 determines that 50 to 74 % slippage has occurred and the last grade that is Grade 4 indicates that 75 to 99 % slippage has occurred. There is one more condition that shows 100 % slippage of your vertebrae and that condition is called spondyloptosis.
All these five grouping are done on the basis of slippage of your vertebrae that determines how far slippage has happened. Generally symptoms of isthmic spondylolisthesis don’t arise at its earlier stage even if slippage of vertebrae has occurred long ago.
